Abstract
Exploding metal film anode plasma source (EM-FAAPS) experiments have shown that intense beams with improved turn-on time compared to epoxy-filled-groove anodes can be produced. When a plasma opening switch is used to provide the current path that explodes the thin film anode the ion turn-on time is reduced by about 5ns compared with the previous scheme in which an electron collector on the anode provided this current, and by 10ns compared to epoxy anodes.
