  • Abstract
Energy saving technologies for mobile network has drawn more and more attention. Heterogeneous deployment is shown energy efficient with closer transmitting and receiving antenna to users. The energy efficiency (EE) of mobile network is evaluated according to power modeling of equipment in the network. For more realistic evaluation, a power model including key components contributing to power consumption (PC) is essential. In this paper, EE for heterogeneous deployment is evaluated in comparison with traditional homogeneous deployment. PC of functional blocks in base stations (BSs), air conditioner, transmission equipment and power distribution system in the BS site are taken into consideration. Not like that in homogeneous deployment, it is shown that PC of transmission equipment is obvious and cannot be ignored in power model for EE evaluation in heterogeneous deployment. This phenomenon occurs when transmission equipment consumes comparable power to its connected BS.
