Abstract
Accuracy comparison of phase- and time-domain methods for locating partial discharge (PD) in power cables is presented in this paper. The PD location is based on the measurement from two-end of the cable. Phase-domain methods estimate the PD location from the phase difference between the initial waves of a PD signal at the cable terminals. Meanwhile the time-domain methods estimate the PD location from the arrival time interval between the initial waves of a PD signal. To estimate the arrival time, various methods such as peak detection, 50% peak detection, cross correlation, and maximum likelihood are employed. The computer simulation has been carried out using EMTP and the results are presented.
