Abstract
Transformer sympathetic inrush has been analyzed in the literature but is often not highly appreciated. The loss of several motors of a large refinery in Greece, following the energization of the step-up transformer of a nearby new electric power plant, initiated the investigation of the associated transient phenomena. An EMT model of the power system under study has been developed and validated using recordings of the transformer current inrush. Connection modifications are investigated to reduce the impact of the power plant transformer energization to the refinery´s power system.
