  • Abstract
    This paper presents a novel algorithm for two-dimensional (2-D) direction finding based on L-shaped arrays. Firstly, by using the array geometries, four covariance matrices are obtained through spatial smoothing techniques. Secondly, a particular big matrix constructed by the four covariance matrices is used to estimate the signal subspace. Finally, the direction of arriving angles can be achieved by 2-D ESPRIT algorithm. Simulation results confirm that the proposed method, compared with the conventional methods, has higher estimation accuracy, low computation cost, and also can estimate coherent signals.
