Abstract
Land Mobile Satellite (LMS) systems are used in integrated next generation communication networks providing large coverage and high throughput. Cooperative diversity techniques have been proposed in order to increase the system performance. In this work, the outage performance of a cooperative hybrid satellite-terrestrial system is analytically evaluated. The satellite links are assumed to suffer from shadowed Ricean fading, while the terrestrial link suffers from Nakagami-m fading. Extended numerical results depict the effect of different shadowing conditions on the overall cooperative LMS system. Finally, the impact of the satellite elevation angle on the system performance is also investigated.
