Abstract
The MIMO capabilities of electronically steerable passive array radiator (ESPAR) antennas in the beamspace (BS) domain have attracted considerable attention in the literature. This paper presents a novel genetic algorithm (GA), which is designed to calculate the loading values of the parasitic elements of an ESPAR antenna used in BS-MIMO systems. The proposed algorithm calculates the loads that produce the feasible radiation pattern of the antenna, which is the closest one to a desired radiation pattern. In this study we consider modulated radiation patterns as desired patterns, however, the input of the genetic algorithm could be any individual radiation pattern.
