  • Abstract
In this paper a model for the evaluation of the improvement due to route diversity in broadband radio access networks is presented. Since rain attenuation causes the most severe attenuation in high frequency wireless communications and it exhibits spatial variations, a route diversity technique may be applied as a countermeasure. In such systems, the modeling of joint exceedance probability of rain attenuation is needed for the computation of the outage probability. In this contribution, a new model based on the bivariate Inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution is presented for the estimation of the Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF) of rain attenuation. The model is compared to the NTUA model recently adopted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in ITU-R. P. 1410 and finally some useful conclusions are drawn.
