Abstract
In this paper we propose a systematic strategy, which takes a cue from the concept of Transformation Optics (TO) to design thin coatings for arbitrarily shaped radar targets. In contrast to the cloaks designed by using the TO, whose frequency bandwidth is extremely narrow, and which only work for one polarization, the present design not only provides a very wideband performance, but is capable of handling arbitrary polarization as well. The scattering performance of the coating, which is designed by using real materials - as opposed to metamaterials - is systematically investigated. An algorithm for tailoring the material parameters of the coating to adapt to localized shape perturbations is presented.
