  • Abstract
New method for the preparation of CdSe/ZnSe core/shell nanoparticles is described from the cadmium oxide (CdO) precursor through a convenient, two-step approach. The outer zinc selenide (ZnSe) shell provides efficient confinement of electron and hole wave functions inside the nanocrystal as well as high photochemical stability. Optical absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopes probe the effect of ZnSe passivation on the electronic structure of the dots. X-Ray diffraction spectra (XRD) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were used to analyze the average size, shape and internal structure of the core/shell nanoparticles.
