Abstract
As one of the most rapid urbanization countries since the 20th century, China confronts the conflicts some challenges with the strategy of accelerating urbanization. This paper aims at assessing relationship between the population urbanization and land urbanization in Hubei province from 1998 to 2008 with a coordination degree model. The results indicated that urbanization at the prefecture-level cities and county-level cities under the jurisdiction of province in Hubei province is still experiencing the accelerating growth from primary stage to middle stage. However, the integrated development of urban population and urban land in Hubei province generally was in a poor situation and the coordination degree showed decline with obvious fluctuant characteristics. It implies that rural-urban population migration should be paid more attention and built-in area expansion should be under controlled in the future urbanization in Hubei province.
