  • Abstract
This paper presents a green topology management scheme to enable a beyond next generation mobile broadband system to adapt to traffic fluctuations in order to achieve energy savings. This is achieved by identifying and switching off underutilised base stations taking into account the system QoS. It is shown that the scheme successfully tunes the state of the base stations (ON/OFF) depending on traffic demands saving more than 80% of the energy consumed with no topology management at low traffic loads. It is also proven that the scheme outperforms the latest state-of-the-art topology management schemes for beyond next generation mobile broadband systems in terms of both system QoS as well as energy savings at all traffic levels.
