Abstract
Under the influence of sustained flood scouring, buried pipelines are often exposed out of earth surface and this will result in vortex-induced vibration of suspended pipeline, which is one of the main reasons of fatigue failure of pipelines. In order to realize the remote monitoring of pipelines threatened by floods, we have designed a new kind of telemetering system based on fiber Bragg grating and wireless network technologies, which can satisfy the requirements automatic and real-time monitoring of vortex-induced vibration of suspended pipelines subjected to flood impacting. The telemetering system has been put into practical application in a monitoring project, the measurement results indicate that it is of such advantages as real-time capability, high accuracy, unattended operation, and it can well meet the present requirements of safety monitoring of oil and gas pipelines.
