Abstract
We propose a simple and effective method to improve the performance over the binary-input additive white Gaussian noise (BIAWGN) channel of semi-random Kite (SR-Kite) codes which are a kind of rateless codes. We apply the precoding technique to semi-random Kite codes, termed precoded Kite codes. Simulation results show that the proposed precoded Kite codes demonstrate a noticeable performance improvement over a wide range of signal-to-noise ratio and code rates. Furthermore, we investigate the comparison of the bit error rate performance over the BIAWGN channel between the precoded kite codes and the Raptor codes in the moderate-to-high code rate region. It can be deduced that in the moderate-to-high rate region, the precoded Kite codes perform better than Raptor codes over the AWGN channel.
