Abstract
For a multi-user multi-relay network with a total relay power constraint, we investigate the relay power allocation (PA) that maximizes the network sum-rate. Different users use orthogonal channels to avoid interference. With the optimal relay beamforming for each user, the problem reduces to finding the optimal power the relays use in total to help each user. We first prove that the problem is convex. Then a suboptimal solution is proposed in closed form. Further, the SNR and sum-rate are analyzed for networks with a large number of relay antennas. The asymptotic behaviour of the SNR is derived rigorously for the high transmit power regime. Simulation results are provided to show the significance of proper PA and to justify the analytical SNR and sum-rate results.
