Abstract
The paper gathers for the first time measurement principles, technological aspects and typical performances of several types of smart force transducers (vibrating wire, resistive and optical), giving some comparative data concerning their measurement sensitivity. Further, an original medical application is presented, about the integration of a classical strain gauge force transducer into a medical application using virtual instrumentation.
