Abstract
Measurements were effectuated during abusive tests on lithium ion polymer cells. Two types of test were performed to estimate the behaviour of large lithium ion polymer cells during mechanical and thermal abusive conditions. The first experiment consist of a nail penetration test simulating the internal short circuit inside the cell while the second, the thermal runaway test, is used to determine the temperature at which the cell starts to undergo self-heating.
