Abstract
There are various modulation schemes suitable for optical wireless communications. Among these schemes, the multiple pulse position modulation scheme (MPPM) was proved to be more power efficient than other modulation schemes such as: on off keying (OOK), pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) and pulse position modulation (PPM)[1]. While taking bandwidth efficiency into account, MPPM is not a strong candidate. In order to achieve both power and bandwidth efficiency, a multiple pulse amplitude and position modulation (MPAPM) scheme was proposed. The proposed modulation scheme can achieve better combined power and bandwidth efficiency by choosing adequate parameters.
