Abstract
The teaching of advanced geometrical optics can be made both interesting and reasonably simple through the use of matrix algebra. With this method, the required numerical calculations are performed on a hand-eld instrument or, preferably, a computer-graphics facility. The advantages of this approach are discussed, as well as the objections raised by others.
