Abstract
The noise in perpendicular magnetic recording was studied. Noise analysis based on a model with position fluctuations of sharp transitions suggested that the saturation in integrated noise at high linear densities represents recording resolution of the recording media. Recording simulation study of the transition jitter noise for media with increased exchange coupling between adjacent grains indicated no enhancement in transition jitter as long as the recording resolution is increased. It was suggested that a higher recording resolution could be compatible with a low-noise property in perpendicular magnetic recording media.
