Abstract
The numerical dispersion of the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is a serious drawback in view of computing long range propagation of lightning pulses in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide. In this paper, it is shown that most of this dispersion can be removed by postprocessing the FDTD results. This makes possible the propagation of lightning pulses up to thousands of kilometres with reasonable computational times.
