Abstract
The scalar propagation characteristics of a bent, depressed-inner cladding optical fiber are investigated. Using a first-order perturbation theory, analytical solution for the corrections to the fields and propagation constants of the fundamental mode are derived, and an expression for the shift of the field due to the bend is obtained. The effect of the outer cladding on the field shift and propagation constant is examined
