Abstract
The authors give limits on dimensional scaling in assessing the same transient and steady-state performance of the down-scaled micromachine as that of the full-size machine. This system has the ability to model various types of synchronous and asynchronous machines in real time by means of one machine and to simulate the effects of various types of field and damper windings in the rotor without having a damper cage in the physical model of the machine. By means of this system, new types of machine control such as two-axes control and supplementary damping control can be studied. Test and identification results are given which compare favorably with a chosen set of characteristic time constants
