Abstract
Attempts to accurately communicate the effects encountered under or near EHV transmission lines has been a problem leading to various public misconceptions or exaggerations. In response to this problem, Ontario Hydro has set up a public demonstration site under operating 500 kV lines to show the electrostatic, electromagnetic and corona effects on vehicles, buildings, fencing, personnel, livestock, plants and radio and television reception. The opportunity to personally N experience these effects has laid to rest many public concerns and resulted in favourable media coverage.
