Abstract
A grounding grid is designed with the capacity to minimize the very fast transient overvoltage generated during switching operations in a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS). The methodology takes the reference from the IEEE Std. 80-2000 and contains detailed models of GIS and grounding grid. By means an iterative process, new elements are added to the grounding grid for reducing magnitude of a very fast transient overvoltage in different points of a substation. This permits to improve the levels of personal security and the protection of apparatus in the substation.
