Abstract
Several nitrides, including BN, AlN, VN, TiN, NbN, CrN, HfN, TaN, ZrN, and Si3N4, were doped into R -(Fe, M )-B magnets (R =rare earths, M =Al/Co). Coercivities were enhanced by 6 to 20% with small additions of 0.1 to 0.2 wt.%. Remanence, maximum energy product, and temperature coefficients were all improved. BN, AlN, TiN, and Si3N4 were found to be the most effective in the enhancement. It was found that an increase in sintered density and a modification in intergranular phase due to the reaction between nitrides and the Nd-rich phase are the main causes for the improvements
