Laboratory method of measuring the phase of a backscatter signal

Much can be learned about the basic scattering from simple radar targets if the phase as well as the amplitude of the echo is measured. Many laboratories cannot afford a costly phase-amplitude receiver, and this letter describes a simple way to extract phase behaviour from amplitude data alone.
