Abstract
The authors introduce a color measurement system that has applications in industry, biomedical engineering, and pollution monitoring. A multiple-light-emitting-diode (LED) color source, LED color signal receiver, and a microcontroller drive a PC. The hardware utilizes extremely narrowband (1/3 to 1/100 of a hertz) synchronous detection of 3-10 kHz square-wave pulsed LED outputs, in sequential time sequence. The PC software applies colorimetric theory to the measurement data to determine the measurement object´s CIE chromaticity coordinates. The CIE x, y chromaticity diagram (the horseshoe-shaped rainbow diagram) is reproduced on the PC color video monitor on which the coordinates are plotted. Limitations and extensions of color beyond the PC video display capacity are discussed.<>
