Abstract
Equipment in fixed stations of a mobile radio system is susceptible to damage from lightning strokes to either the antennas or the connecting power and land communication facilities unless special protection is provided. The problem, however, is not alone one of protecting the station equipment, but consideration must also be given to the protection of these connecting facilities to insure their continuity of service. The causes of and factors affecting lightning damaga are discussed including the probable incidence of strokes to the antennas. General protection principles are outlined, and the application of specific protection methods is described.
