  • Abstract
Quasi-square-wave current-fed inverter drives suffer from low-speed torque pulsations, which can cause mechanical resonances and speed-ripple problems. Recent developments in microprocessor-based PWM control techniques offer the possibility of improving the low-speed performance of CFI drives, thereby significantly extending their range of applications. This paper describes the development of fast computer modelling techniques which will allow wide ranging computer-aided-design investigations to be performed on optimal PWM current-fed inverter drives. The validity and accuracy of these fast modelling techniques are confirmed using practical results obtained from a microprocessor controlled current-fed PWM inverter-drive system.
