Abstract
The activities of two of the three Technology Groups in The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) are reported, Group Tl, which deals with compatible improvements to the present NTSC signal format, is currently concentrating on removal of set-up and digital sound for television. T2, which deals with improvements which may be achieved by new signal formats at 525 lines per second scanning rate, has issued a report on the results of a three year investigation on a time multiplexed analog component ("B-MAC") signal format optimized for signal transmission over satellite. Work is also underway on a signal format (a) for in-plant distribution based on a serial version of CCIR Recommendation 601, and (b) for cable television distribution.
