Abstract
An analysis of a permanent-magnet dot-matrix printer head is presented. A modeling approach combining the use of a reluctance network with the finite-element method is proposed. The model makes it possible to estimate the effects of the interaction among different windings (crosstalk) acting on different needles and to predict the operating performance. The reluctance model is employed to get a rough estimate of the magnetomotive forces of the permanent magnet and of the exciting windings. The finite-element analysis gives flux-current characteristics and force-stroke curves useful for optimizing the magnetic circuit. Some experimental results confirm the utility of the approach
