  • Abstract
A description is given of how to improve the transient performance of reluctance motors by the choice of its effective parameters. Motor damping is modeled and the values of the effective parameters which give maximum damping are obtained. The effect of these parameters on motor transients following changes in load and starting conditions is demonstrated. The study covers operation from frequency supply. The results illustrate significant improvement in transient performance when the effective parameters are properly chosen. The influence of these parameters on motor stability is also examined. The results represent a useful guide to design reluctance motors with improved transient performance
