Abstract
It is contended that the gap between the honours engineering degree and the courses of study available to technician engineers is widening, and this occurs at a time when better qualified applicants are coming forward. The concept of degrees specifically designed for this industrial employment sector is supported, and the cases for, and against, are considered, as are quality and resource issues.
