  • Abstract
Advance, one of the RACE I telecommunication-management-network projects, is reviewed. The main goal of Advance was to recommend how sophisticated network- and customer-administration systems should be designed and developed. Although the project did not set out to define an architecture for advanced information processing, the project team found that this work was much more important than the initial RACE work plan suggested. Advance examined many architectural issues, defined a unifying concept, and developed a prototype architecture and computing platform.<>
