Abstract
Pulse losses and instability for an 8 T pulse magnet is investigated experimentally whose developement has already been reported. Measured loss is separated into two parts, i.e. hysteresis loss and eddy current loss. Hysteresis losses agree fairly well with theoretical values which take account of the decrease of the critical current near Bc2 . It is confirmed from the results of analysis that eddy current losses are generated mainly from the outer copper sheath of cable. Next, stability is tested in the rather heavy duty cycle operation with high ramp-rates. No sign of instability or change is observed during repeated pulse cycles.
