Abstract
This article presents the optimization of a single-phase reluctance actuator for an application in the automotive industry. As an example, the electrical throttle plate for an E-Gas system is analyzed. The main advantages of such E-Gas systems, against a mechanical solution using a Boween cable are: 1) improved driving comfort, 2) integration of idele speed, cruise and traction control, 3) reduced emissions, 4) reduced fuel consumption, 5) simplified engine packaging and 6. cost reduction. The requirements and boundary conditions required for an electrical actuator for this application is summarized in this paper.
