Abstract
The optical modes interfering constructively and destructively in the tapered output section of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer are measured and calculated. Rib-waveguides consisting of silicon oxide cladding layers and an oxynitride waveguide are employed. The measurements and the calculations show that, for destructive interference, the optical intensity runs under a small angle away from the rib-waveguide in the oxynitride layer
