Abstract
Graphitized carbon black Monarch 700 doped with boron (1%) at two heat treatment temperatures (2073, 2350K) have been characterized by magnetic susceptibility measurements. These showed a transition from Landau diamagnetism to the Langevin type diamagnetism with progressive boron doping. Band parameters such as the degeneracy temperature, effective mass, etc. were derived. Increasing boron doping lowered the Fermi level. Kinetic results for CO hydrogenation for Fe dispersions on the above carbon supports showed a significant formation of CH4 for the boron doped samples, suggesting a metal support interaction.
