Abstract
The power loss of Fe81 B13.5 Si3.5 C2 toroids can be minimised by annealing for 2 hours at a temperature in the range 365 - 380°C. Saturation magnetization and Curie temperature also fall to a minimum in this range: it is believed that structural relaxation is responsible. Internal crystallization of α-Fe dendrites can be detected with transmission microscopy at temperatures
C. It is likely that surface oxidation and perhaps surface crystallization occur at a lower temperature and so contribute to the upturn in power loss.
