Abstract
The work reported here concerns a d.c. electromagnetic pump, which uses superconducting coils for the generation of the external field. The magnetic field thus obtainable, appears to be of 5-6 T, with air gaps of some tens of centimetres. In this situation, a study of fields has been carried out in the active part of the pump, in order to determine the distribution of eddy currents in the fluid. For this purpose, an electrical network with lumped parameters (resistances and d.c. generators), has been used. This network considers the fluid reaction e.m.f. as a function of the velocity of the conducting fluid and the electric resistance of the liquid.
