Implications of Monism Attitude to the Principle (ἀρχὴ) in Pre-Socraticsʼ Thought

موضوع نوشتار حاضر بررسي استدلال‌هاي اسپينوزا و لاك در دفاع از آزادي است. براي اين هدف، ابتدا مدارا و آزادي را تعريف كرده و نسبتشان با يكديگر را سنجيده‌ام، سپس بستر پيدايش نظريه‌هاي دفاع از مدارا و آزادي را شرح داده و تئوري‌هاي حامي خشونت ديني را به اختصار بررسيده‌ام. بعد از آن، استدلال‌هاي اسپينوزا در دفاع از آزادي را به تفصيل آورده‌ام، سپس استدلال‌هاي جان لاك در دفاع از آزادي و مدارا را تقرير كرده‌ام. در پايان نوشتار، با بررسي نسبت دفاعيات هر يك از اين دو انديشمند با مباني مقوم خشونت ديني تلاش كرده‌ام نشان دهم استدلال‌هاي هر يك از اين دو فيلسوف، كدام‌يك از مباني مقوم خشونت ديني را خنثا مي‌كند.

The subject of this article is to deliberate Locke and Spinoza’s arguments for liberty and toleration. In order to achieve this, first i have defined and clarified the two main concepts of this project; toleration and liberty. Then I have discussed the context which causes initiation of defending toleration and liberty in modern ages while discussing the defending theories for religious and political violence in brief. After these, Spinoza’s arguments supporting for toleration and liberty are presented in detail and next, John Lock’s arguments are expressed. In the end, the regard of these two philosophers’ arguments defending toleration and liberty alongside the arguments defending religious and political violence has been deliberated. I have tried to show that which argument defending toleration takedown which principle defending religious or political violence.
