Applying Johansenʹs test of co-integration and Hsiaoʹs version of Granger causality, the paper seeks to find out the relationship, if any, between human capital and economic growth in Iran over the period 1959-2001. It shows that there exists bi-directional causality, between human capital and non-oil economic growth. However, the causality between economic growth (including oil revenues) and human capital goes only from the former to the latter. The empirical results-of the paper imply that during the last four decades, oil revenues have led ,to human capital accumulation which in turn caused non-oil GDP growth.
