A Study on the Effect of Surface Materials Condition at the Landslide Occurrence

The slope, climate, lithological and hydrological as well as paleoclimatical condition in northern slopes of Gushe Dagh have made the region vulnerable to landslides. External and internal factors contribute to the occurrence of landslides differently. In parts of the region the moisture affecting the surface material causes periodic movement in the slopes in certain seasons. In wet seasons movement occurs just in the surface thin clay layers. In great other parts of the region, however, materials in the surface layers react strongly to the moisture and cause external effects to act more vigorously than internal ones. Of ten samples collected, the plasticity limit (%PL) differs from 26 sample no five (near Kutner village) to no plasticity (N.P) in other parts of the region under study.
