Histological Evaluation of Regenerative Effect of a Collagon Membrane (Parogide) in Periodontium of Sheep

The aim of this study was to investigate regenerative effect of parogide membrane on periodontium. Methods and Materials: For this purpose, a surgical defect of 5mm depth was produced on buccal cortical bone of second lower premolar in 4 sheep. The width of defect was from medial to distal of the teeth. The cementum was removed, and the defect was covered with a sheet of parogide membrane. Then, the flap was sutured. Results: This study revealed that new periodontal ligaments (PDL) were regenerated in the area, which was functionally intact and free of inflammation. The rate of bone regeneration was 60.2%, of lamellar bone. The mean value of new cementum was 4.01 mm of cellular and a cellular type. Conclusion: The result of this study showed that parogide membrane is able to enhance periodontal regeneration.
