In vitro digestibility and in situ degradability of SO2-treated Gundelia to urnefortii

Chemical composition, and in vitro digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), and organic matter in dry matter (OMDM) of S02 -treated (4.5% w/w) Gundelia tournefortii hay were determined. Degradability of DM and crude protein (CP) were determined by dacron-bag technique in three ruminallyfistulated Mehraban rams. In vitro digestibility coefficients for DM, OM, OMDM in S02-treated and non-treated Gundelia tournefortii hay, were 66.1, 64.3, 54.6%, and 57.9, 56.4, 48.5%, respectively (P>0.05). The potential degradability of DM and CP for S02-treated Gundelia tournefortii was 79.82 and 79.48 respectively, as compared with 72.31 and 75.50 for non-treated Gundelia tournefortii, respectively. The results indicated that, SO2 treatment did not have a marked effect on the nutritional properties of Gundelia tournefortii.
