The comparision of total factor productivity of major rice production areas by tornquist - theil index

Population growtb and limitation of production inputs increase the necessity and importance of factor productivity growth, particulariy in developing countries which the inputs are used improper. Ln Lran, like the most of developing countries, lowness of the factor productivity is one of the most important barriers to growth and development in agriculture sector and so in whole economy. This paper has attempted to calculate the total factor productivity (TFP) of rice varieties such as high yield long grain and high quality long grain in most important provinces i.e. Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan by using the Tomgvist-Theil nonparametric index approach and results are presented by each proveince and variety. As suggesting proposing proper recommendation needs to economic and technical aspects, Quantitative technical analysis revealed that high yeild long grain and bigh quality long grain varieties in all proviences bad positive and negative average growth of productivity, respectively. Then increasing in high yeild long grain vareity using could implement TFP.
