Digital archives

The emergence of information society and the development of new information technologies have raised a demand to digitalize archival materials. Digitalization makes all, or the greater part of an archiveʹs holding accessible to the users on the web. This article introduces the concept of digital archive, its development, services, technicalities, legal, and ethical considerations. The issue of policy for selection of archival materials for digitalization and, methods of storing archival materials will be discussed.
