The influence of Persian on Arabic

The mutual influence of Persian and Arabic is the inevitable consequence of the relations between Arabs and Persians, and a result of a dialogue among civilizations and cultures. The writer examines this effect at two different historical points, before and after the Iraniansʹ conversion to Islam. Before the Iranians accepted Islam, Iran had a great civilization with many world-famous kings. The existence of scientific centers in Iran, the establishment of Jondi Shapoor University, the kingsʹ interest in knowledge, and the influence of Iranian governments in the lands of the Arabs, prepared the ground for Arab scientists, literary figures and poets to emigrate to the kingsʹ courts. This led to the entering of Persian words and proverbs into Arabic and the Holy Koran. After the advent of Islam, Iranians found great interest in the religious teachings of Moslems. Abbasid kingsʹ encouragement of knowledge activated, the internal tendency of Iranians to knowledge and made it flourish. Consequently, they turned to knowledge seriously and created valuable works of literature which resulted in the development of the Arabic language.
