A Study of Association between Helicobacter Pylori Infection and Chronic Urticaria

Chronic urticaria is a common disease that is always a challenge to the dermatologist due to its etiology. In this prospective study, 100 patients with chronic urticaria (mean duration 27.1 months) attending Allergy Clinic of Mashhad were selected. They were educated about a diary form. Routine tests and ELISA test for anti H.pylori IgA & lgG were requested. At the third visit, antibiotic therapy (triple regimen) for seropositive patients was commenced. 27 patients (16 females, 11 males) with a mean age of 31.6 years (range 17 to 55 years) had positive test for igA. Disappearance (40.7%) or improvement (22.2%) occurred in most antimicrobially treated patients. In conclusion, in clinical and paraclinical approach to chronic urticaria, H. pylori infection should be considered as an etiologic factor.
